Watch The Low Down 🪂, a 3:53 Cperm Cryptographic Theater presentation about origin, descent, inheritance, and what happens when a source disappears beneath the surface yet returns in a changed form.
The Low Down turns a literal fall into a question about origin. In its visual fantasy, Chad Pelican and his companion leap from a Dubai supertower after McNally's imcredible $66 trillion purchase, disappear into the ocean, and surface with two babies who resemble them. Underneath it is inheritance: what comes back is not a duplicate of the source. It is something new that still carries recognizable traits from where it began.
This is the lens to the 1981 origin account. The argument presented here is not that a later work must remain identical to an earlier source in order to descend from it. Ideas can be changed by writers, institutions, budgets, genres, technology and time while still preserving recognizable structural ancestry. In this presentation, the Atari 400, WOPR and DeLorean are treated as a genealogy of ideas rather than a demand for frame-by-frame duplication.
The disputed hinge is what happened after the FBI encounter. Federal authorities encountered the minor operator behind WPA in Las Vegas in 1981, and the unresolved question is whether knowledge of that computer theatre later traveled beyond the home and into entertainment channels without attribution. The Low Down approaches that claim through descent: an origin can disappear from view while later forms become larger, richer and culturally dominant.
A source should not have to remain visually unchanged in order to preserve its ancestry. It needs a durable record of when it existed, what it contained and who published it. Something can go beneath the surface, transform completely, and still have a beginning. The purpose of the record is to keep that beginning from disappearing with it.
